Correspondence, photographs, lecture notes, published articles, choreographic notes, manuscript music, sheet music, recorded music, scripts, costume concept drawings, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and memoirs documenting the thirty year dance career of Gertrude Lippincott, a performer, teacher, and advocate of modern dance and dance education. She was an active member of national organizations such as the Congress On Research In Dance (CORD) and the National Council of the Arts In Education (NCAIE) and regional organizations such as the Minnesota Dance Association and the Minnesota Independent Choreographers Alliance (MICA).

Benjamin S. Lippincott travelled overland to California with the Bryant party. He helped to raise recruits during the Mexican War and served as lieutenant of Company H, California Battalion. He lived in San Francisco in 1847, served in California constitutional convention of 1849, represented San Joaquin County in the first state legislature, and represented Calaveras County in the legislatures of 1855 and 1861. In 1962 she began teaching dance at Holy Names College, where she established a dance program.
